Free Workers outraged by corruption,
rights violations

The Federation of Free Workers is outraged over yet another instance of institutionalized corruption in government and the consequent violation of human rights in an attempt to silence key witnesses to the raging National Broadband Network (NBN) investigations.

Such violations of human rights bring a chilling effect to citizens and activists who opt to exercise their Constitutionally-ensured freedom of expression, freedom of speech and the right to redress government for legitimate grievances.

Montaño pushes for Labor Code amendments
to conform to ILO Conv. 87; condemns killings

Allan S. Montano
FFW National President Atty. Allan S. Montaño has called on the Philippine government to amend the more than three decade-old Labor Code to conform with ILO Convention 87 on the "Freedom of Association and the Protection of the Right to Organize," which the Philippines has ratified as early as 1953. Meanwhile, he condemned in the strongest possible terms the "killings" that have happened in the country as these are unjustified whatever the circumstances surrounding them.

FFW celebrates 57th Anniversary by vowing to strengthen social partnership

FFW celebrates 57th AnniversaryThe FFW marked its 57th year of existence on June 19 by calling for stronger social partnership which shall serve as the key in strengthening the Federation and promoting decent work. Social Partnership has defined the work of the Federation since its 22nd National Convention, thus, opening the doors for greater collaboration with other partners to further the interests of its constituency and Philippine labor in general.

With the theme, "AFFIRMING A LEGACY: Strengthening the Capacity of the FFW as a Trade Union-Social Movement," the Convention looks back at the contributions of the FFW to the trade union movement in the country and envisions how to better serve its growing constituency: workers' trade unions; and over the last decade, the basic sectoral organizations.
